Discover the Joy of Painting at Trail Winds Recreation Center in Thornton, Colorado

When most people think of a recreation center, they picture fitness classes, swimming pools, or pickleball courts.

What they may not expect is to discover a room filled with easels, oil paints, and people creating beautiful mountain landscapes inspired by Bob Ross.

I'm excited to share that I'm now the Certified Ross Instructor® teaching Bob Ross® Wet-on-Wet Technique® oil painting classes at the Trail Winds Recreation Center Active Adult Wing in Thornton, Colorado.

Whether you've always wanted to learn to paint or you're simply looking for a creative way to spend an afternoon, these classes are designed to make painting approachable, relaxing, and fun.

Why Take a Painting Class at a Recreation Center?

Community recreation centers have long been places where people come together to learn new skills, stay active, and meet others who share similar interests.

Adding Bob Ross® painting classes to that environment feels like a natural fit.

Our workshops bring together people from all walks of life. Some students have never painted before. Others grew up watching The Joy of Painting and have always wanted to try Bob Ross's famous Wet-on-Wet Technique®. Everyone begins with a blank canvas, and by the end of class, everyone leaves with a completed landscape they created themselves.

One of my favorite moments is watching students compare their paintings at the end of class. Even though we're all following the same demonstration, every painting reflects the personality and creativity of the artist behind it.

A Beginner-Friendly Experience

One of the biggest misconceptions about oil painting is that it's difficult.

The truth is that Bob Ross developed his teaching method specifically for beginners.

You don't need any drawing experience.

You don't need to bring supplies.

You don't even need to consider yourself artistic.

I'll guide you through each step of the process, demonstrating every technique along the way. Before you know it, you'll have painted mountains, clouds, trees, and reflections that you may never have imagined you could create.

More Than an Art Class

One of the things I've come to appreciate most about teaching is that these classes are about more than painting.

They create opportunities for conversation, laughter, and connection.

Students encourage one another, celebrate each other's successes, and leave with both a finished painting and a memorable experience. Whether you come with a friend or attend on your own, you'll find a welcoming environment where creativity is encouraged and perfection isn't expected.

That's exactly what Bob Ross hoped people would experience through painting.
